Friday Night Lights
I am clearly biased but there were around 84 games in Eastern Massachusetts high school football last Friday night but none were more thrilling than Concord-Carlisle at Lexington. For those not in the stands or sidelines let’s review what happened.
There were no turnovers.
There was only 1 punt.
Lexington took the lead three different times only to have CC come back to tie each time.
There were 2 spectacular long touchdowns, one by each team, that were later erased by penalties.
The game featured, in my humble opinion, the most dynamic quarterback in the state, Lexington’s Sal Frelick.
QB Jack Easterday, in only his second varsity start for C-C, threw two TD passes, including a clutch throw and equally clutch catch by Alex Hamel on 4th down to end the first half.
Finally C-C had a brilliantly called, well executed eight and one half minute drive to open the second half, not only to knot the score at 28 but to keep the electric Lexington QB and his backs and receivers off the field.
Lexington was 1 point better on the scoreboard in the end but the coaches and players on both teams gave the fans in the stands a night they won’t forget.
Looking ahead Concord-Carlisle averaged 33.6 points a game in 2015 to lead the Dual County League. So far in 2016 C-C has scored 35 points and 34 points. Get there early this Friday night against long time rival Acton-Boxboro so you don’t miss any of the excitement!
